Dry Erase vs Chalkboard Paint: Which is right for you?

Having a wall to write on can be useful in so many ways. From children to educators to business folk, writable walls help people communicate creatively and intelligently.

So, which is right for you?

Cleanliness

The smoother surface of a dry erase board makes it easier to erase than chalkboards. Also, chalkboards can be messier because of the chalk dust, so you will have to dust the room more often. If a person has asthma, it could potentially causes health issues.

Despite being easier to clean than chalkboards, some people complain about marker residue being visible after wiping the boards with an eraser. This is simply a misunderstanding on how to clean the boards. There are two proven methods of properly cleaning dry erase boards.

·        Method 1

1.      Wipe the dry erase board with an eraser

2.      Put a small amount alcohol on a sponge

3.      Clean a small area of the board and, while still wet, wipe it with a dry cloth

4.      Repeat until entire whiteboard is clean

·        Method 2

1.      Spray with canola cooking spray

2.      Wipe with dry cloth until marker is (almost) gone

3.      Spray with glass & surface cleaner

4.      Wipe with paper towel to remove oil and remaining marker

Versatility

Like chalkboards, dry erase boards can become magnetic by painting a layer of metallic paint beneath the dry erase paint.

Chalkboards had been used traditionally for many years in classrooms. In recent years, however, dry erase boards have become the preferred form of writable walls.

Dry erase boards and chalkboards can be used in meeting rooms, offices, classrooms, children’s bedrooms, kitchens, restaurant lobbies, and more.

Professionalism

Chalkboards remind people of classrooms, and therefore deemed adolescent, while dry erase boards look more professional in an office or conference room.

Dry erase paint is unique by offering a transparent option. This allows for using glass as a writing medium, giving it a sleek, modern appearance.
